Miss Russell was born September 24, 1931, in Charlotte, NC., the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James William (Martha Evelyn) Russell. She was a graduate of Matthews High School and attended Flora MacDonald College and Virginia Intermont College. She retired from Ruddick Corporation, where she was employed approximately 35 years.

Alice was a devoted life-long member of Matthews Presbyterian Church, where she served her Lord through various services and offices of the church. She was one of the first women to be elected as a Deacon and Elder.  She was also  the first woman Clerk of the session, serving in that position a number of years.

The Presbyterian women bestowed upon her their highest honor – a life membership for her service as President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Circle Chairman.  Alice was also honored by the Presbytery of Charlotte with the legacy award. She volunteered for several years as church secretary, taught several adult Sunday school classes for a number of years, and taught adults during Vacation Bible School. For a number of years she served as Church Historian.  She assisted her mother, who was the former church historian, in writing "The First One Hundred Years," a history of the Matthews Presbyterian Church.

As a long-time member of the choir and a lover of music, one of her greatest joys was that of organizing and directing the junior choir.  She served in that position for approximately 12 years.

Survivors are her niece, Mrs. Robert C. Hunt, Jr. (Janice) and husband Bob, her grand nephews, Robert C. Hunt, III (Angelia) and Russell J. Hunt , (BINH), their children Annabella, Amelia, and Jackson, and also her step-nephews, Dr. John T. Campbell and Mr. James W. Campbell, and step-niece, Mrs. Douglas R.
