Good Day, Friends,

In the coming weeks, New Friends will be collecting donations through our interest group events for our Community Volunteers' project, Go Jen Go's "Operation Joy."  In order for you to better understand who we are supporting with this effort, please read the profiles below of each of the three NFC-sponsored families that will be receiving Christmas gifts from us.

Salimah is a breast cancer survivor.  She is currently pregnant with her second daughter.  During the pregnancy, her breast cancer returned.  Her recent surgery removed the tumor, and she had clean margins.  Currently cancer-free, she will have treatment to complete after she delivers in October.

Amanda is a mom of two young boys.  Due to Stage III breast cancer, she is unable to work due to treatments.  Her mother moved in to help.  She is going through chemotherapy, surgery, and additional adjuvant therapy based on her responses to treatment.

Alexandrea, a mom to 3 young children, is unable to work due to treatments and doctor's appointments.  She receives food stamps.  Friends and family are helping as best they can with groceries and childcare.  She is searching to find a job that she can work remotely.

Our goal is to provide 36 gifts for the three women with cancer diagnoses, 6 children, 1 husband, 1 grandmother, and one baby being born this month.  In addition, each child is to get a stocking, and each mom is to get a bag of comfort items from our club.  Please count your blessings and give generously.  Our November luncheon speakers will be from Go Jen Go.  Let's have a strong attendance to support this worthy organization.

Our Club is Growing!

Our club is growing with current membership at 170 members.  Our goal is to increase our number to 200 New Friends.  As women, we have an innate desire for friendship and shared experiences.  Our club provides this for all of us.  We should share these benefits with other women we encounter in our daily lives.  In the coming month, I challenge you to encourage a friend or acquaintance to come as a guest to a club event or to join outright!  Let's share the fun.

We extend a warm welcome to our newest member:

Cindy Roberts, a retired nurse who lives in Charlotte, NC

We have had several new members join in recent months, so let's do all we can to help the new members feel welcome and part of the club.  Be the welcoming smile and the offer to help she remembers.  Thank you.

Community Volunteers are hard at work on Operation Joy for this year's charity.  Go Jen Go has 20 families wanting to have a great Christmas and NFC is taking on 3 of them! Each family member was asked what 3 gifts they desired.  A total of 36 gifts were listed by the NFC-sponsored families.

The organizational structure to fulfill Christmas wishes of the families will be implemented through NFC's 24 interest groups.

If you are an NFC member who doesn't attend an Interest Group this month, we still need your help. You can fill a stocking or care bag, select an item off the gift list or donate money. We will provide the stocking and care bag to be filled.

Call Susan or Lisa with any questions, to pick a gift off the list or to fill a stocking or a care bag.

Let’s make this a success!

Getting to Know You...
Questions for Libby Harris

What are three things that you couldn't live
without?
My family and friends, my faith, and my health

Book that you could read again and again?
I read so many books it is hard to pick just one.  I am an avid fiction reader.  Since I retired, I have started reading books about people's life stories.

The last thing that you do before you walk out the door?
Turn the lights off and say goodbye to my cat.

Biggest pet peeve...
People not helping others.  I try to surround myself with genuine caring people.  I have just a few friends but the ones I do...have been in my life for years.  If we don't speak for years and we finally do, it's like we pick up right where we left off!

What woman (past or present) would you love to share lunch with?
My mother who left this world way too soon.  She didn't get to enjoy her great grandchildren.  She would have showered them with so much love.
