New Friends is so honored to host a talk by renowned artist Chas Fagin on January 8, at 10 am, at the Southpark Regional Library as a part of the "In the Know" series of events chaired by Barbara Evers. Of particular interest to those living in Mecklenburg County, Fagin created a sculpture of Captain James Jack and his horse now located in a large central fountain between the Pearl Street Bridge and Morehead Street which serves as centerpiece of the Little Sugar Creek Greenway. The captain and his horse raced from Charlotte to deliver the Mecklenburg County Declaration of Independence to the Continental Congress in Philadelphia in June 1775. This work titled "Spirit of Mecklenburg" was the prime focus for the 235th anniversary celebration of the famous ride. Fagin is one of Charlotte's most distinguished artists. A Pennsylvania native, his love of history inspires his portfolio of sculpture, portraiture, and landscapes. Don't miss this very special opportunity. Registration is now open to sign-up for this January event.
Also in January, remember Elvis will be in the house at the NFC Social Saturday, January 11, from 6 to 10 pm at The Villas at Heritage Clubhouse. Registration is now open for this event. Begin the evening indulging in delicious hors d'oeuvres, Elvis will perform for 1 1/2 hours with games & prizes following the entertainment. BYOB and the price of the evening is $30 per person. So grab your blue suede shoes and poodle skirts. Join the celebration of Elvis turning 90!!!!
