Good Day, Friends,
- Any member who is in need of reimbursement from the club must present their receipts and reimbursement form (found on the NFC website under "Forms" in Documents) to Treasurer Jean Rottmann on or before May 31 if you expect payment.
Looking at the week ahead, there are some vacancies you may wish to fill:
- Book Swappers today 11:00 a.m.
- Samba on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m
- Mexican Train 2 on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.
- Lunch Bunch 2 on Friday at 11:30 a.m.
And also coming in May:
- A few seats remain to be filled for our May 22 membership luncheon at Raintree Country Club, where we will install the newly-elected officers for 2025-2026. As in April, the board has approved a deeply discounted cost for your meal at $25 for members, but full price of $40 for guests. Don't miss out! Register today while seats are still available.
- Here are yet more reasons to join us for a guided-tour by a Mint docent of renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz's work at the Mint Museum Uptown on Thursday, May 29, at 11:00 a.m..
Yet more reasons:
1. "The most important thing for me is a love of photography. Of storytelling through that medium." quote from Annie Leibovitz.
2. Annie Leibovitz chronicles popular culture like few other artists. She tells stories about who we are as a society through the portraits she makes of the influential people of our time.
3. Whoopi Goldberg was an up-and-coming comedian in 1984, who had joked about using Clorox in an attempt to bleach her skin in her routine. So, when Leibovitz suggested using a bath full of milk for the portrait to make a deliberate and powerful comment on race, the scene was set for a serious image destined to make a political impact. A lightness was accidentally added though when Goldberg slipped getting into the bath, "And I went, oh, my goodness, this is graphically amazing and interesting," said Leibovitz.
The cost of the event will be $22 payable to Andrea directly by Venmo, Zelle, check or cash. Questions? Contact Andrea at 210-836-4264 or Andreawoods567@gmail.com
