Welcome to November...
I can't believe I am almost halfway through my presidency and Thanksgiving is right around the corner.  I am so happy to have met many members I didn't know well, in addition to welcoming new members each month.  I have also been a guest at Winers and Diners, attended Brews and Bites for the first time and was a substitute for Dining with Divas.  As the year continues, I plan to attend each of our club events that I haven't attended in the past.

As we all know, November brings Thanksgiving and the beginning of the holiday season.  New Friends has a lot going on so fasten your seatbelts and get ready for the ride.  Pretty soon, we will be talking about 2026 and I'll be announcing the Nominating Committee for the next slate of NFC officers!

I am so pleased that each month we continue to gain new members.  Slow and steady is always good.

If you haven't registered for Friendsgiving, your time is running out.  Don't forget to sign up for the cake or pie contest.  Call or email Susan Brandenburg to let her know which one you will bake.  Good Luck!

A few recurring events will cancel due to Thanksgiving.  Better Homes and Gardens has added a Christmas Decor Exchange...so please check the calendar for events that are happening this month.  Also, please do not register unless you are sure you can attend.

December will also have limited events due to the Christmas holiday.  Please plan to attend the annual Holiday Luncheon on December 11th at the Ballantyne Country Club.  This year, we will begin at 10:30 am for Social and at 11:00 am will begin a delicious Brunch Buffet.  The brunch will include fresh fruit, pastries, scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage, home-style potatoes, pancakes, shrimp and grits, salad, desserts coffee, tea and juice.  This luncheon is highly subsidized by the club.  Members $40.00 and guests $50.00.  We will NOT be having a gift exchange this year, but Santa says, "Don't worry, I have something for everyone!"  There will be a fun short program entitled "The Night Before the Holiday Luncheon" so please plan to register starting November 1st.

Don't forget to pass out treats to the ghosts and goblins in your neighborhood on October 31.  Send pictures to our Historian to be added to our home page.

Hello all, hope you are enjoying the lower temperatures and the crispness of Fall.

As mentioned in last month's newsletter, we had a great turnout for prospective members at our Welcome Coffee in September.  I'm happy to report that we have two new members who attended that Coffee.  Our newest members are:

Patricia Rumbley - Patricia resides in South Charlotte and previously lived at the NC coast and the Florida Keys.
Suellen Chandler - Suellen is originally from California and now lives in Waxhaw.

Please make a point of welcoming Patricia and Suellen if you meet them at one of our events.  I'm sure our new members would also love a welcoming phone call or email.  Their contact information can be found on our website under "Directory."

Our new membership total is now 161...11 new members since the beginning of our fiscal year in June and a total of 17 new members since January 1.

For those who celebrate the ghosts and goblins - Happy Halloween!

Friends,
I wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of you from the bottom of heart for the extraordinary kindness shown to me during and after my hospitalization in July and August. Your cards, text and phone messages and meal train provisions truly aided in my recovery, and I am overwhelmed. Additionally, thank you to all of you who inquired about my Dad after his brief hospitalization. It means a great deal to me that many of you always ask how he is doing.

With gratitude and friendship,
Christine Roach

Getting To Know you...

Madam President Jeanne Deiger

What is your wildest animal encounter?   Well, let me just say that I am EXTREMELY PARANOID about having SNAKES nearby.  I don't care if they are the safe Black snake that eats the poisonous snakes or not.  Many years ago, while raking leaves on my back patio a baby copperhead decided it wanted to check out my kitchen. Well, you can imagine my reaction when I saw this baby curled up in the corner.  I jumped on the counter and screamed and my little dog, Susie, ran upstairs like, "I'm getting out of here!"  When I finally realized that I live alone and screaming would do nothing, I called my neighbor.  Poor Susie ran downstairs to rescue me and thankfully my neighbor got the snake with a shovel and removed it from my kitchen. No, I don't want to go see "Jungle Larry" ever again.

The movie that you could watch again and again...and why.  Those that know me know I love a comedy and anything with music.  One of my favorite movies is "Home Alone".  I laugh every time and sing "Somewhere in My Memory" EVERY TIME. It never gets old.  In fact, my-partner-in-crime and I sat outside in the cold last December at the Ballantyne Amp to watch it on the big screen and we laughed and belted out "Somewhere in My Memory"...

What have you always suspected that you could do but you're too nervous to try?   I always thought I could go skydiving for a milestone birthday but haven't tried.  I think maybe if my-partner-in-crime and I are still kicking in another 7 years we should try this, and someone could push both of us out of the plane while we sing "Somewhere in My Memory"...

What woman, (past or present) would you love to have lunch with? I'd love to have lunch with my mother again.  I miss her every day.  She passed exactly 6 years ago yesterday.

What's next on your bucket list? Maybe a cruise through the Panama Canal or a trip to Scotland. I've been to every state including Alaska and Hawaii, Europe, Asia and the island of Guam for business. I'm happy to relax at home.

What's your most cherished childhood memory?  That's a tough one but I think it was the one and only surprise party I had when I was young.  My father took me to J.C. Penney's to buy a dress. (My dad never took me shopping). When we got home, all my little friends were there.  I can't remember if we even bought a dress, but I sure was surprised.
